Type Zhuyin. Skip the tones.
Wrong key, swapped keys, a missed key: usually you still get the sentence you meant.

Install
macOS
Download the
.dmg.Open it and double-click “Install Misstype”. No password needed.
Log out and back in, then pick “Misstype Bopomofo” from the input menu.

Linux (fcitx5)
-
Install the package for your distribution (prebuilt packages for x86_64 and aarch64):
-
Log out and back in (or restart fcitx5), open
fcitx5-configtool, add “Misstype” to your input methods, and switch with your fcitx5 shortcut.
Build from source
If no package matches your system, build directly from source:
# 1. Install build tools
# Arch Linux / Omarchy:
sudo pacman -S --needed base-devel cmake ninja git
# Ubuntu 24.04:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install -y git
script/linux/bootstrap.sh
# 2. Clone and install
git clone https://github.com/Yukaii/misstype.git && cd misstype
script/linux/install_ime.sh
Use IBus instead (GNOME and others, experimental)
The IBus engine shares the same core and has a Preferences window; do not install it alongside the fcitx5 package. On Arch, use yay -S ibus-misstype-bin; or download MisstypeIBus-* from the latest Release:
# Ubuntu 24.04
sudo apt install ./MisstypeIBus-*-ubuntu24.04-*.deb
# Fedora
sudo dnf install ./MisstypeIBus-*-fedora*.rpm
# Arch Linux
sudo pacman -U ./MisstypeIBus-*-arch-*.pkg.tar.zst
# Or build from source without a package:
# script/linux/build.sh && sudo cmake --install build/ibus
After installation, run ibus restart, then add Misstype (Chinese) under Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources. Preferences are in ibus-setup, or run /usr/libexec/ibus-setup-misstype. See the IBus port notes.

Install Misstype on this Linux computer:
1. Detect the distro and architecture; ask before running commands that need sudo.
2. On Arch/Omarchy prefer the AUR package fcitx5-misstype-bin (x86_64 and aarch64; yay or paru); otherwise use the matching Ubuntu 24.04 or Fedora package from the latest Release; if none matches, clone https://github.com/Yukaii/misstype.git.
3. For a source install, use base-devel, cmake, ninja, and git on Arch/Omarchy; on Ubuntu 24.04 run script/linux/bootstrap.sh.
4. From the project root, run script/linux/install_ime.sh.
5. Confirm fcitx5 is running and add Misstype to the input-method group with fcitx5-configtool.
6. Restart or log in again, switch to Misstype with the fcitx5 shortcut, and type su3cl3 to verify the preedit is “你好”.
If the environment is unsupported, explain why and stop without removing existing input methods.
One more thing
I made this for myself. It's new and it will have rough edges.
If you want a solid everyday Zhuyin input method, use vChewing. If you want to try typing this way, go ahead, and tell me what breaks on GitHub.
This input method is shaped around my own typing habits. It focuses on the standard Zhuyin layout, with no plans to add other input methods or Simplified Chinese.
